ANITA JAYNE MOORE
August 7, 1919-October 6, 2017(age 98)
Anita was born in Evanston, Illinois to Stella and John Murray. The childhood she
shared with her brother, Norman was filled with travel as her father was a traveling
salesman. After a century of embracing life to the fullest and on her own terms, she
passed quietly on October 6th at Manor Care.
Anita’s life was active and full. She lived through WWII, losing her beloved husband Roy
Engelbretson while serving in the Army in Europe. Settling in Denver, Colorado, she
was a woman ahead of her time. She was active in politics as a committee woman, only
woman on an area committee for the Republican party, and as a campaign manager for
a state senator. Later in life she graduated from Hotel Management School using those
skills as an executive housekeeper in major hotels in Denver and Monterey, and finally
working for the Marriott Corporation opening new hotels.
On retiring, travel was once again a way of spending time with her daughter JoAnn and
grandson Brook. She enjoyed exploring and living on Cape Cod, Monterey and Gig
Harbor. But it was Monterey that she grew to love the most. She delighted in the birth of
and visits from three delightful great grandchildren.
On hearing of her death, her oldest great grandson Oliver asked his mother, if he could
say a prayer for her. His prayer: “Dear God, please look after Great Grandma in
Heaven. Thank you, she is with Roy now. Please give them a good time”.
Anita is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Dick Schneider, grandson
and wife, Brook and Tanya Foulds, and three great grandsons, Oliver, Eli, and George
Roy, as well as numerous Engelbretson nieces, nephews and their children.
There will be a family memorial ceremony in Monterey in the Spring
