Welcome to the memorial page for

David Thomas Semon

May 15, 1959 ~ August 21, 2016 (age 57) 57 Years Old

David Semon, “the King of the Corner,” aged 57, died unexpectedly, Sunday August 21st, at home with his dog Lucy by his side. Dave was beloved by, and dearly loved his parents, Pat and Tom Semon, his sister, Cheryl Jones (Dave), his nieces, nephew and grand-nieces. He was an active presence in his community and was loved by many friends and neighbors. Always thoughtful, generous, kind hearted and creative, Dave developed his talent for mosaic sculpture later in life and created many pieces that will be cherished by friends and family. An example of his work can still be seen at the Gallucci Learning Garden on Tacoma’s Hilltop. An open-house-celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Sunday, September 11th from 1:00-5:00 at his home. Friends and neighbors are warmly invited.

A Special Note from David's Parents:

GOODBYE DEAR SON.

We hope that your last sail beyond the horizon lands at a place that brings you only happiness and joy, and where all your dogs are named Lucy.

Fair winds and following seas.

Love,

Mom and Dad

Special Note From Cheryl:

David Semon, brother and first friend, taught me so much in my life. Through all of his many struggles and challenges, his heart did not harden. His kindness and thoughtfulness were the truest parts of him and what will be remembered. Sweetest little boy, laughing teenager, brave creative man: Davey, I hope your body, mind and spirit are finally peaceful and whole. I love you.

David's Letter About His Love of Art:

My lifelong love of art has driven me to study many different mediums. Since joining, and volunteering at Tacoma Art Place starting in Nov. of 2007 I have been exposed to many established artists and their varied disciplines. Having no formal training in the arts these people with their vast knowledge, along with my enthusiasm and willingness to learn, have become my teachers and critics. The wealth of information, and experience possessed by these people, the endless information on the Internet, along with other publications continue to be invaluable tools in my continual art education. As it’s been said, the student often becomes the master, this is one of my goals with my art work. My main goal with the whimsical nature of e ach of my original pieces is to bring years of enjoyment to the owner. Living in the northwest with our long gray winters, each of my works with their unique design, bright coloring, and nature theme is designed to provide my customers with a long lasting pleasing focal point for their garden or outdoor space.

My preferred mediums are ceramics, concrete, fused glass, and tile/class mosaics. Most of my works are a combination of some or all of these mediums. Due to financial restraints, along with the love, dedication, and many hours I put into each and every one of my works they are as of yet few in numbers. Though small in numbers the attention, and praise each one receives is not. Each one of my works is an original one of a kind design. Each of my pieces with the exception of my most recent, have been purchased by private Parties in the Tacoma area. The latest of my pieces (a nine foot long newt sitting atop a boulder) was done as a donation to the Guadalupe Land trust for their learning garden, located on So. 14th and G St. Tacoma Wa..

The attention the newt draws by passersby, drives me towards wanting to do more in the field of public art. The joy seen in the faces of kids and adults alike is a wonderful feeling, and one I would like to continue to experience.
