Welcome to the memorial page for

Jerry Thomas Moore

March 13, 1928 ~ August 11, 2015 (age 87) 87 Years Old

GOD SAW HIM GETTING TIRED AND A CURE WAS NOT TO BE SO HE PUT HIS ARMS AROUND HIM AND WHISPERED “COME TO ME”

Jerry T. Moore was born on March 13, 1928 in Seattle to Thomas and Mary Hanley Moore. His father was in the construction field which required frequent moves to various locations throughout Jerry’s childhood. Jerry served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1948 and went onto college at Western Washington College earning a BA in Education in 1952. He joined the Boeing Company and made this place of employment his career before retiring in 1990 after 34 years of service. He proved to be invaluable not only to his company but also to his country’s space program during his tenure. He accrued many honors and acclaims during his career at Boeing.

Jerry met his wife Mavis at a friend’s wedding rehearsal party. They were married on November 12, 1955. Their son Kim was born in October 1956 and daughter Lisa in October, 1961. Jerry and Mavis raised their family in South Seattle until Jerry was transferred to Huntsville, AL in 1962 chosen to partake in the Saturn 1 Rocket Program. The Moore’s made their home in New Orleans during this time. Jerry’s name is mentioned along with all others that were a part of the team selected to serve on Saturn 1’s development and is located in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. He returned to Seattle and set up home in Renton while finishing up his career in Boeing’s Black Box. A true and devoted member of this group never divulging any information about his days spent working there.

Jerry devoted a lot of his time and energy volunteering for each church they attended in the various cities they called home. From building and grounds maintenance to superintendent of Sunday school. From janitor to new addition committees; Jerry was a self taught “general contractor” of sorts. The gift God gave him was he could do it all. He was an active member of Agnus Dei Lutheran Church while living in Gig Harbor.

Jerry lived a full and accomplished life both professionally and personally. He enjoyed vacations camping and hiking with his children as they grew to purchasing a 5th wheeler trailer and seeing all of USA during his retirement years. He got to see the world with visits to Europe, Israel, Mexico and Canada. He enjoyed traveling and learning new places and things.

Jerry was also an accomplished woodworker building everything from specialized furniture to new kitchen cabinetry. A love and knowledge he passed onto his son Kim.

As time moved on, Jerry’s health took a turn and he needed assisted living. His last days were spent in the care of Brookdale Senior Living. Jerry Moore passed from this place and met his glorious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, in the early morning peacefully in his sleep. The family would like to recognize the staff at Brookdale and thank them for their care of Jerry during his stay. Most importantly is their care and compassion even during Jerry’s typical loud and angry outbursts. We all know that patience wasn’t one of Jerry’s virtues but he had many other virtues as you many know of or have read here.

Preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Mathers, Jerry leaves behind his wife Mavis, his son Kim D Moore (Marci), daughter Lisa K Hood (Eric), his grandchildren Micah Jo, Jet and Mik Moore, Tyler and Dannielle Hood, his sister Karen (Jim) Adair, his in-laws Ordean Helland, Ruth Browder and Carol (Harold) Lietz and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service with reception to follow will be held Friday, August 21st at 2:00PM at Agnus Dei Lutheran Church, 10511 Peacock Hill, Gig Harbor. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Agnus Dei Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
