Jim Edward Brookshire

Born 10/20/1946 at Fort McPherson Army Base, GA, Jim fell into a peaceful forever sleep at his home on March 3rd, 2017 in Gig Harbor WA.

Preceding him in death, parents, Lilla Virginia and Marion Brookshire, sister, Louise Chastain, brothers, Harold and Wayne Franklin, all from the Atlanta area and son, Brian Brookshire, San Leandro, CA. 

Survived by his wife and the love of his life for over 25 years, Paula Jean and his many fur-babies  He is also survived by grandsons, Michael, Joseph, and Jeremy Brookshire, San Leandro, CA, Sister, Lynore West and family Patrice and Carrilton, Josh and Geoffrey, Lakewood, WA.   Brothers, Gene, Randall, and David Franklin, Atlanta, Georgia. Also, many nieces, nephews, and good friends in GA, TX, CA, MI, and WA. 

Jim grew up in Georgia and enlisted in the US NAVY in 1963. After boot camp in San Diego, he was stationed in Bremerton, WA on the AOE 1 USS Sacramento's maiden deployment. He proudly served in Vietnam '66-'67 as a Riverboat Gunner on the Mekong Delta. He worked various jobs in California, Texas, and WA including being an Alameda County Sheriff Deputy to becoming a paramedic and phlebotomist. Jim's great love for dogs motivated him to eventually own his own kennel in 2006 until his retirement and move back to Gig Harbor in 2013. 

In his honor, please continue his contributions to his favorite charities to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the Humane Society, or to Disabled American Vets. 

A Celebration of Jim's Life will be May, 25th from 3PM - 9PM at his home in Gig Harbor.  Military Honor Service will be 11:00 AM May 26th at Tahoma National Cemetery.
