Kenneth “Ken” Reid Jennings, 92, passed away peacefully in Gig Harbor, Washington on August 18, 2017. He was born in Little River, Kansas on January 23, 1925, to William Paul and Jenny Rhea (Krebbs) Jennings. He is deeply loved and will be missed dearly by his family. Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Lloyd and Galen Jennings. He is survived by his wife Verna Jean (Lindholm) Jennings, children Clark Jennings and Connie Nelson, grandchildren Bryan Jennings, Lindsey Curp, Natalie Nelson, Reid Nelson, Maja Nelson-Shaffer, Lisa Schafer and Mandi Schafer as well as nine great-grandchildren.
Ken graduated from Little River High School in Little River, Kansas, in 1942 and attended Hutchinson Junior College before joining the United States Navy in 1943 where he served his country in the Pacific during World War II.
Ken worked as a typesetter for the St. Joseph News Press in St. Joseph, Missouri which provided him with the opportunity to produce daily news about world and community events. Upon retirement he spent time traveling throughout the world with his wife Verna Jean. When home he enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and being with family and friends.
A Memorial Service for Kenneth will be held at Peninsula Lutheran Church in Gig Harbor, WA, on September 1, 2017, at 3:30 PM. Memorials may be given to Peninsula Lutheran Church or Group Action for Peninsula People (GAPP), a non-profit in Gig Harbor serving individuals with developmental disabilities.
