Mary Jane Shew-Mitchell

Mary Jane fought a courageous battle with cancer for the last two years of her life. Her family was with her during the whole struggle: Her husband Cliff Mitchell, sons David, Jose, and James; Daughters Dora Jean and Kathleen. She now joins her Father and Mother Everett and Dora Belle Shew, husband Bill Brandt, three brothers and one grandson. She is survived by two sisters and two brothers, 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Jane was born at home in Ballard, Washington and lived throughout the state her whole life. Georgetown was her starting point into the business and professional world. Her modeling career started at Dorothy Farier Modeling Agency in Seattle, where she modeled for the Bon Marche and Frederick and Nelson.

During her early years at Cleveland High, she received a scholarship for Flight School in Tyler Texas. She ventured out alone driving her 1930 Model A Ford. Upon returning to Seattle her career took off with the Teamsters as billing clerk for freight companies. She was an honorable teamster member for over 35 years. During her working years she was busy raising her five children. Mary Jane took great pride in her beautiful flower gardens, excellent raspberry pies, cakes, fudge, and cream puffs. She was a superb cook and baker. Over the years she had many precious dogs and cats.

Mom wishes to thank her wonderful caregivers Karla and Sylvie for their many hours of patience and kindness. Also to the staff of Peninsula Retirement Center and much appreciated services of Hospice.

Graveside Services will be held at Haven of Rest Memorial Park, 8503 State Route 16 NW, Gig Harbor, WA 98332 on August 1, 2015 at 12:00 noon.
