Milt arrived on a warm summer day in 1926. Throughout his 91 years, the Harbor
proved to be an anchor. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army as WWII
waned: deployed to the Philippines and Japan.
Having his fill of international travel, he returned to the Harbor where he married
Dora Mazzone. The two were blessed with 35 years of marriage; they raised their
sons and built a wonderful life together.
Until 1982, Milt worked at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton. While
he earned his living at PSNS, his joy was volunteering at the Fire Department for
more than 25 years. He retired as Volunteer Assistant Chief.
28 years ago, Milt married Janet Chandler. Together, they enjoyed pursuing his
life-long passion of motorcycle touring. They traveled to numerous states on the
back of his Goldwing. In all relationships, Milt’s loyalty, dry sense of humor and
repertoire of silly songs nurtured friendships.
As Milt’s health declined, he maintained his humor and humility. He peacefully
passed away into the arms of his Savior.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold & Violet; his first wife, Dora;
and his 4 sisters, Elsie, Loretta, Diane, and a fourth who died in infancy. He is
survived by his wife, Janet; sons, Allen (Rachel) & Greg (Kelley); brother, Harold
(JaeRyun); Jennifer (Bill); Rodger (Crystal); Rob (Marla); Jeff (Susan); 13
grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
Milt's memorial service will be held on 03/10/18 at 1:00 pm at Harbor Covenant
Church in Gig Harbor. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to the Gig Harbor
Fire-fighter Association or Tacoma Rescue Mission.
