Raymond Edward Peabody was the only child of Everett and Betsy Alsvik Peabody. Born on January 7, 1945, in Oakland, California; died on March 3, 2017, in Gig Harbor, Washington.

In his youth Ray enjoyed the outdoors and the family camping trips. He was a member of the 4H Club and had planted fir tree seedlings on his parent’s property. He spent many happy hours with his many cousins. One highlight in his teen years was guiding “Lil Toot” with his childhood friend Evan Reames in the Harbor Holidays Parade. After graduation from Peninsula High School in 1963, Ray joined the U.S. Army where he studied communications and after his discharge Ray went to work for CenturyTel in Gig Harbor. He also worked for phone companies in Bellingham and New Mexico. He retired from GNC as a manager.

Ray cared about family and friends, often asking if everyone was okay. We will miss his humor and our first Monday of the month lunches.

Ray is survived by cousins in Wisconsin; Norma Hitter, Arnold Stokke, Arnold Malmin of Gig Harbor; Oddny Everson of Salem, Oregon; Bill Alsvick, Ida Hoopman and Anita Rummel of the Seattle area.

Memorial service will be held on April 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Haven of Rest. Remembrances may be made to Franciscan Hospice, 2901 Bridgeport Way, University Place, WA 98466.
