Rebecca L. Kerr

11/11/1957 - 01/18/2017

Rebecca (Becky/Bec) L. Kerr was born November 11, 1957 in Portland, OR to Walt and Nancy Kerr. She grew up in Gig Harbor, WA where she attended Peninsula High School, graduation in 1976. Becky passed away due to complications from pneumonia and Multiple Sclerosis surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at the age of 59, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Gig Harbor.

Becky was preceded in death by her father, Walter L. Kerr, and her beloved brother-in-law, Alan Ross. She is survived by her mother, Nancy L. (Bell) Kerr, her two sisters, Debra L. (Kerr) Ross and Diann L. Kerr, her two daughters, Amy L. Melton (Nic Coleman) and Erica L. (Ian) Dickinson, her granddaughter, Corielle L. Dickinson, her nephew John ( Alyssa) Ross, and niece Shannon L. (Brady and Leif) Bumgarner.

Becky always said she had the best childhood growing up in Gig Harbor. She played on the beach with her faithful dog, Tabitha, rode her bike for miles and miles, and made a close group of friends with Ray, Wayne and Louise, and Pat.

Becky started showing symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis (M.S.) thirty-seven years ago at the age of twenty two. She never gave up even as the disease progressed. Becky never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook, optimistic for the future. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Becky raised her two girls, Amy and Erica, and was actively involved in their lives as they continued on into adulthood. She was a loving and compassionate mother. Becky devoted her life to being a great mom.

When Amy and Erica were young Becky enjoyed board games, watching the girls play soccer, and playing with the family cats, Cinnamon and Patches. Later she enjoyed long drives taking in the scenery, attending plays, watching the Seahawks and really any other sporting event, playing bingo, and doing arts and crafts projects. Becky’s most cherished event remained any time spent with family.

Becky’s greatest treasure called her “Ma”. Becoming a Grandma to Corielle Louise Dickinson was a great joy and honor to her. She was lucky to get to spend beloved time with her grand-angel, always sharing small toys and trinkets. Becky loved to read to Corielle, play with finger puppets, and just watch her grow up.

Filled with compassion and interest in others, Becky made friends easily and maintained contact with many. She was famous for her notes and cards filled with stickers and well wishes.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life for Becky on Saturday, March 4, 2017, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Milville Pizza Co., 3409 Harborview Dr. Gig Harbor. Help us celebrate the love and joy Becky brought into all our lives.
