Richard Rasmussen

Richard “Dick” L. Rasmussen was born in 1930 to Frank and Bertha “Mertie” Rasmussen in Tacoma, WA.  The youngest joining sisters Ruthie, Gladiola, Bev and Carol and the last to pass to join the family again in heaven on May 4^th.

Dick loved sports as a kid, had a paper route and raised pigeons at his family home on So. Prospect in Tacoma.  He served in the US Navy in the Philippines and after he was honorably discharged, he returned to Tacoma to work in a hardware store on 6^th Avenue and met the love of his life, Jody in 1954 and they were married on June 3, 1957.

He worked for Sherwin Williams and then at Parker Paint where he managed the store in Auburn and then the store in Gig Harbor until his retirement in 1992.  He and Jody then became snowbirds traveling to Yuma, AZ every winter to enjoy the beautiful weather with their many friends.  Their place was the spot to come for cookies and coffee to start the day and dominos or cards in the evening.  He also would arrange the once a month dinner gatherings for the group.  Wherever he went it seemed as he would always run into someone he knew.

Dick’s greatest joy was his family and would love to have the “kids” over for any and all occasions.  He also loved to golf, doing woodworking projects, and to go fishing when they still lived at the beach.

Survived by his “Lil” as he affectionately called Jody, son Robert (Karen) Rasmussen, daughters Graceann (Ernie Melvin) Rasmussen and Robin (Roy) Ward. Grandkids Jessica (Nate) Zaslow, Roby Rasmussen, Katrina (Adam) Schultz and Ashlee (John) VanGeelkerken and four great-grandkids Caden Zaslow, Landon and Gavin Schultz and Colton VanGeelkerken. Sister-in-law Katherine Abendroth and brother-in-law Dominic Scarcella, several nieces and nephews and so many great friends.  

Please join us for a celebration of his life on June 3^rd at the clubhouse located at 3702 Hunt St. NW. Gig Harbor from 1 until 4.
