The park was open all weekend with flags placed as a tribute on the graves of over 2,200 veterans. The ceremony was held on Monday at noon and was a great success. Over 300 people were in attendance and from interviews were thrilled to attend the ceremony. The all American hot dog lunch was a hit as well. We welcomed the retirement busses of local senior facilities. They were honored as veterans, spouses of veterans and members of The Greatest Generation.
Haven of Rest is thankful and appreciative of all the volunteers and community associations that helped to make this a day of remembrance. Such as volunteers from Peninsula High School ROTC, Commander Hood, Williams Flowers donated red roses for Veteran's graves with floral selections available for purchase. HiTech Cleaners is always available to press all ceremonial flags for Veteran's families. Lighthouse Christian School had middle school student volunteers in attendance to serve lunch to our senior citizens at their special reserved table, while active duty veterans helped as strong escorts for seating. Much appreciation to the professional musicians in attendance from Joel Gibson Jr. Band.
It really is a wonderful remembrance of veterans and other loved ones who've gone before us. It is in the DNA of Haven of Rest to Honor and Remember the lives of the thousands of families we serve as well as our privilege to pay tribute to veterans on this special day of remembrance..
