Anthony Longo
Anthony J. Longo, 88, of Port Orchard passed away June 21, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on October 16, 1928 to Louis J and Rose M (Gallo) Longo.  Graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1947, he had hopes of a career in aircraft mechanics, but soon discovered jobs in that field were hard to find. In 1950 Uncle Sam came knocking and he spent 2 years in the army. A Korean War Veteran, devoted Roman Catholic, and family man, he came to Port Orchard in 1965 on a one week vacation to help his sister Mary, and never left.

Throughout his lifetime he held a handful of jobs in New York, New Jersey, and Washington, before eventually retiring from the automotive industry in 1992. After the loss of his brother in 1998 he was lost, but found great joy in caring for his Great Niece Ashley. In 2004, he went back to work in the cafeteria of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton, where Ashley attended. An employee of theirs for 7 years, he finally embraced retirement in 2013 and celebrated by taking a solo road trip across the country to reconnect with some of his buddies from the Army, and visit family on the East Coast.

He is survived by his sister Mary Duryea and Brother in Law George of Port Orchard; nephews Louis Longo, Tom (Deb) Duryea, Anthony Duryea, Corey (Edie) Shomin; nieces Marie Longo (Aaron Nelson), Shawna (Matt) Sekerak, and Rosalyn (Glenn) Accardi, along with many great nieces and nephews whom he loved tremendously.

Visitation will be from 9 am to 4:30 pm on Monday June 26th, at Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor. Funeral services will be conducted at Haven of Rest on Tuesday June 27th at 11 am, with graveside military honors, and reception immediately following.
