Darliene J. Stiegelmeyer, 93, passed away on May 4, 2017.  Darliene lived in the Tacoma area since World War II and in Gig Harbor since 1978.  She was born on July 9, 1923 in Elk Point, South Dakota, the daughter of Delbert C. and Bessie (Scott) Daniels. She married Dallas W. Stiegelmeyer on May 5, 1941 in Oakland, California.

During World War II, Darliene worked at the Fort Lewis Laundry while Dallas was deployed in the Pacific.  Darliene was very artistic, and won numerous awards and ribbons for her ceramics at the Western Washington Fair in Puyallup.  Later in her career, she attended Clover Park Vocational School, earning an accounting assistant certification in 1968.  Darliene worked in the accounting department at Western State Hospital until her retirement in 1985.

She spent many enjoyable summers playing cards, fishing for salmon, and digging clams at Westport, Washington with family and friends.  Darliene enjoyed a long and rich retirement with her husband Dallas, living on Wollochet Bay during the summer, and spending 30 years as winter “snow birds” in Las Vegas, Nevada.  In 2014, they moved to Harbor Place retirement community in Gig Harbor, and made many new friends among the residents and staff.  Darliene’s final year was spent at Cottesmore of Life Care nursing facility.

Darliene is survived by sons Blaine of Virginia Beach, VA and Gary (Jeannette) of Silverdale, WA; sisters, Rosella (Ed) Glomski, and Pauline (Steven) Schmidt and brother, Lowell (Rose) Daniels.  Darliene has two grand children, one great grand-child.  She is predeceased by her husband of 74-1/2 years, Dallas, and sisters Betty Peterson and Dolores Andersen.

The family will hold a private memorial service.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Tacoma Rescue Mission 425 S Tacoma Way, Tacoma, WA 98402.  The family wishes to express thanks to the Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care team, and to the Harbor Place and Cottesmore of Life Care staff for their caring support of Darliene during her time there.
