Dorothy Marcella Acey, 85, a lifetime resident of western Washington died Saturday, September 1, 2018. Dorothy grew up in Centralia and Tacoma Washington, graduating from Lincoln High School and then earning her LPN at Bates Technical College. She worked at Saint Joseph Hospital in Tacoma Washington and married Robert Meers. She was a homemaker for many years while raising her children. Dorothy, always a talented seamstress, enjoyed taking tailoring classes at Bates. She later earned her RN at Tacoma Community college and worked at Saint Joseph Hospital once again and then she used her nursing skills as a visiting RN in home health care. Dorothy married Kay Acey and the two moved to Browns Point. She retired from nursing and enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends from church and her neighborhood. As a widow she led an active social life participating in Red Hats, STARS and her church Grace Place. Recently she moved to Gig Harbor to live near her daughter.
Family members include her son Keith Meers and his wife Carol, her daughter Teri Wright and her husband Ron, and also Dottie’s sister, Donna Lerew of Berkley California. Dorothy also leaves behind four grandchildren (Andy Miller, Khrystina Meers, Mary Miller and Jayne Ruscigno), their spouses, and two great grandchildren.
A memorial will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Waypoint Church, 12719 134th Ave Kp N Gig Harbor, WA 98329.
