Edward H. Wittmers Jr., 80, passed away peacefully in Gig Harbor, Washington on March 12, 2019 at Cottesmore of Life Care. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 9, 1938 to Edward Sr. and Vera Wittmers. Edward is deeply loved and will be missed every day by his family and friends.
He attended and graduated from Holy Cross High School in the year 1956. He later completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees at Louisiana State University and Troy State University, respectively.
He retired from the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years of faithful and honorable service to include service in Vietnam. Edward culminated his USAF career as Director, Communication-Electronics at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. He then worked for US West as a program manager until his retirement in 2001.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Gig Harbor for almost 40 years. He was a generous person and especially enjoyed the St. Nicholas Catholic School annual auction.
He was best known for his sense of humor, generosity, loyalty to his friends and family parties.
His favorite past times/hobbies were model trains, sports (LSU Tigers, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners) and RV travel.
Edward’s family is grateful for the compassionate care and respect shown to him by Dr. Mark Craddock & staff and the caregivers of Cottesmore of Life Care.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Denise Wittmers; four children, Brian Wittmers (Michelle); Scott Wittmers (Marletta); Lisa Calderon (Danny); Keith Wittmers (Deborah); Mildred Dauzat (Sister); nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Gig Harbor, WA.
