James “Jim” Lester Absten, 67, passed away peacefully in Tacoma WA, after a long illness on August 11, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Bobbie Absten, wife Debra, and sister-in-law Kathryn “Katy” Absten.
He was born in Tacoma, WA on June 8, 1952, a fourth generation Washingtonian. He graduated from Franklin Pierce High School and after his service in the Army earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Puget Sound.
James will be remembered for his devout faith, passion for football, tenacity in the face of daunting obstacles, sense of humor and a wily smile, but most of all his love and pride in his family.
He is survived by his son James (Kathryn Price), grandson Ryan, brothers John (Teresa) and Roger Absten, sister Betty (John) Sable, aunt Marybell Absten, 15 nephews/nieces and many extended family members.
James was loved and will be missed.
A celebration of his life was held at the home of Roger Absten, in Gig Harbor, on Saturday September 14th at 12:00 pm.
