JoAnn L. Alexander
1951-2019
JoAnn L. Alexander, 68 beloved wife and Mother was born June 8, 1951 in Tacoma. WA. She died on Oct. 22, 2019 at Swedish Hospital Cherry Hill Campus awaiting treatment for a re-accruing brain tumor.
JoAnn was loved and will be greatly missed by husband of 48 years, Gerald A. Alexander Jr, sons Isaac, Joshua, (Lisa), and grandsons Zane & Landon. Sister Annette Clem, (Jim), sons Zack, Jacob, Brother Michael, (Cindy), and her Mother Judy Andersen.
JoAnn was born and raised in Parkland Wa., living next to Aunts and Uncles homes. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church where she was baptized and later confirmed there as a youth. JoAnn first met Jerry in Franklin Pierce High School band where they began to date. They were married at Trinity Lutheran on Dec 18, 1971.
JoAnn lived in Parkland, Sea-Tac, and the past 20 years in Gig Harbor Washington. JoAnn attended studies at University of Washington and spent a few years working jobs as a receptionist and secretary before settling into homemaking for her husband and two sons. She was proud to be of Danish heritage and showcased it in her cooking abilities. JoAnn volunteered at her sons schools to keep them focused. As a grandma she also helped at Zane and Landon's schools as well.
JoAnn was active member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Couples Club, as well as drama plays such as “Colby the Computer” with her family. She carried on her activism at Peninsula Lutheran in helping with meals participating behind the scenes and in Bible Studies. JoAnn was also an organ donor. Upon her death, her corneas were used to provide sight to a patient in need.
She was best known for her steady Joy, Laughter and Love. She was outgoing with a wicked sense of humor. She always seemed to have a smile on her face and ready for action or a good SeaHawks game. JoAnn held a deep love for her savior.
JoAnn's favorite pass time/hobbies were her skilled sewing ability, cooking, traveling on several cruises, and two road trips this year. She loved spending time visiting family and friends, getting together with high school friends, church groups, and women's bible studies with Lois and other close friends.
A Memorial service in JoAnn's honor will be held at Peninsula Lutheran Church in Gig Harbor November 7, 2019 at 11am.
JoAnn loved her grandkids Zane and Landon. One of the charities that JoAnn was involved in is JDRF. JDRF is the leading global organization funding Type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Their vision is a world without Type 1 diabetic. Both Jerry and JoAnn are diabetic as well as Zane who is Type 1. The entire Alexander family has participated in Beat the Bridge run/walk to raise money for JDRF research. Below is a link to Team Zane that Lisa Alexander in law has set up to donate.
