Kathleen Andrews Tobin went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 63 on Saturday, December 2nd, 2017. She was a retired Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Kathleen was born at Webb Air Force Base in Big Springs, Texas on June 22nd, 1954. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in Sumter, South Carolina and continued her education at Whitworth University and later attaining her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Pacific Lutheran University. After a battle with breast cancer, she achieved her Master’s degree in Nursing at University of Washington. She was a 23-year breast cancer survivor. In her later life, she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in conjunction with interstitial lung disease and bronchiectasis.

Kathleen was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, sister, and dear friend to many as well as an excellent nurse practitioner. She was an accomplished ballerina, pianist, and was a member of the Champions Centre Choir for many years. She also enjoyed equestrian activities. She held the title of District Commissioner (DC) for Woodbrook Hunt Pony Club and later was also the DC of Peninsula Pony Club.

One of Kathleen’s greatest ambitions was to be a part of a medical mission and utilize her skills in pediatric nursing to bring medical care to children in less fortunate countries around the world. Unfortunately, her health was a determining factor in this goal. Kathleen loved working with children of all ages. It was her niche in her nursing career.

Family was the most important thing in this world to Kathleen. She would have said her children were her greatest love and joy. She fought a difficult battle for far too long due to her love of her 4 children. She was the rock and strength of our family. She carried a dignity and grace matched by none. Her unyielding faith in God’s greater purpose never wavered even in the most difficult of times. She believed there was an unrevealed plan and purpose for her life. Her family is at peace knowing she is no longer suffering in pain and is now getting the body she always wanted.

She is pre-deceased by her father, Lt. Colonel Lewis S. Andrews, and brother, Todd E. Andrews. Kathleen is survived by her mother, Bets (Mrs. Lewis S. Andrews), 4 children - Sean R. Walker (Michelle), Erin K. Carlson (Tad), Brittany A. De Los Santos (Corey), and Colleen M. Tobin (Petty Officer 2nd Class), 2 brothers - David L. Andrews (Yvonne) and Scott W. Andrews (Linda), as well as 6 nieces, 3 nephews, 2 grand nieces, and 2 grand nephews.

Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, December 9th, 2017 at Champions Centre at 11:00am. Address: 1819 East 72nd St., Tacoma, WA. Remembrances may be made to Champions Centre.
