MaryJane (Carter) Kirkendall

March 30, 1937 ~ August 30, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old

MaryJane (Carter) Kirkendall passed away after her struggle with cancer on Tuesday the 30th day of August with family by her side.  She was loved deeply and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.  She was a six month resident of both Indio, CA and Moses Lake, WA for the last eight years with her husband, Paul Kirkendall.  Prior to moving she was a longtime resident of Port Orchard and Olalla, married to Edmund Carter for 43 years.

MaryJane was born in 1937 in Seattle, WA to the late Art & Maggie Mosher and was raised in Gilberton WA with her two sisters.  MaryJane graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1955 with a very long list of achievements including; CK & National Honor Society, Drum Majorette, Band, Decoration Chair, Plays and College Conference Chair to name a few. Her Senior Year Book noted “When she smiles, your heart smiles with her”.  After deciding not to pursue a career in modeling, she went on to work as a bank teller and then worked for many years at South Kitsap School District where she retired as their bookkeeper. MaryJane was very creative, she loved sewing, crafting, boating and traveling.   She enjoyed organizing events for classmates & her genealogy group (or any reason for a social gathering), along with her time as WS PITA Secretary/Treasurer and cashiering for gun/trap club shoots.  She never said no when asked for help and was always the first with her hand up whenever there was something to do.

MaryJane is preceded in death by her second husband Edmund Carter and oldest son David Wester. She is survived by her husband Paul Kirkendall, sisters Carol Fry and Susan Miller, children Kevin Wester (& wife Denise), Kristin (Wester) Wick (& husband Christopher), and Step Daughters Dodie (Carter) Perdue (& husband Curtis) and Donna (Carter) Washington, along with grandchildren Ron Gholston, Spencer Williams, Diamond (Cheney) Oswalt, Adam Cheney, Elise (Cheney) Kipperberg, Brandon Cheney, Rachel Wester and Jate’ Carter.

Memorial Service was held at the Tahoma National Cemetery where she is buried with Edmund Carter. A Celebration of Life was held Kevin & Denise Wester's home.   Thank you to everyone that were able to join us.
