Monica Ann (Salle) Ilacqua

Monica Ann Salle Ilacqua, born June 28, 1969, died in her home on January 29, 2017, after a valiant battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her throughout her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

Monica attended St Paul’s elementary, Holy Names Academy, and in 1991, graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a BS in Biology, followed by a master’s degree in 2007 from the University of Phoenix. Her career at MultiCare spanned twenty years starting as a medical technologist and concluding as the regional manager at Covington. She loved her work and greatly appreciated the many friendships made with colleagues over the years. Her knowledge and insight proved invaluable during her illness, and at times astonished the medical staff during treatment.

These past twelve years were exceptionally blessed. Husband Karl and daughter Aurora entered Monica’s life in 2006. And, with the birth of their son Gabriel in 2009, their family was complete. Along with spending time with them, she enjoyed painting and crafting and liked to say “there are no mistakes in crafts.” She was even able to enjoy a snowflake cookie decorating party with friends and family prior to her passing. Karl and Monica created a word together, “eudemonica”, derived from eudemonic which means may you be eternally happy, healthy and in a perpetual state of wellbeing. Appropriately, this is our final wish for her.

Along with husband Karl, children Gabriel and Aurora, Monica is survived by a large and loving family which includes her stepdaughter Krista Hager, mother Lucy Salle, sister, Marie Orrange, brother in law Bill Orrange, brothers Joe, Tom and John Salle, sisters in law Kathy Salle, Julie Salle and Laura Monahan Salle, along with 17 nieces, nephews and many friends.  She is preceded in death by her brother Michael Salle, her father Bernardo Salle and her  Aunt, Sister Marie Colarossi SNJM.

A funeral mass is scheduled for 11:00 am, February 10, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1001 N J St, Tacoma, WA 98403. Reception immediately following.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Monica’s life.
