Richard Tillotson Obituary

Richard (Dick) Lee Tillotson, aged 89, died peacefully on January 25, 2019 in Puyallup, WA.  Richard was born on November 4, 1929 in Pittsburg, CA, son of Harry Tillotson and Wanda Billups (Hunt).

After graduating from Clover Park High School in 1948, Richard worked at Puget Sound National Bank where in the summer of 1950, Richard met the love of his life, Marian Anderson, whom he married in 1951.  Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, and was stationed in Hawaii, South Carolina, and Utah.  Richard later studied at the University of Washington, then transferred to the College of Puget Sound (UPS) where he earned a bachelor's degree in education.  Richard became a teacher and taught at several schools in the Tacoma, WA area.  In 1968, Richard moved the family: Marian, daughter Sandy, son Mike, and son Steve to Rochester, New York where he studied and earned a master's degree at the University of Rochester. Richard returned the family to Tacoma in 1968 where he resided in University Place.  Richard later lived in Gig Harbor, Steilacoom, and finally Puyallup.  Richard was one of the nicest people you would have ever met, combined with his great wit and sense of humor, Richard always touched the lives of those around him.  He was a great husband, father, and friend, and will be missed greatly by all of us that loved him and knew him.  Preceded in death by his wife Marian Tillotson and son Michael (Mike) Tillotson, Richard is survived by his daughter Sandy Tillotson of Puyallup, his son Steve Tillotson of Federal Way, his daughter in law Kim Scarlett of Puyallup, and daughter in law Rosie Tillotson of Federal Way.  A celebration of Richard's life will be at 11:00 pm. at Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor, WA on Saturday, February 9, 2019.
