Robert Lyle Warfield

Robert Warfield of Gig Harbor passed away peacefully at the age of 90.

Bob retired after compassionately serving the mentally ill and incarcerated for many years at Fort Warden Juvenile Detention Center, the Washington State Women's Prison and Western State Hospital.

After being perhaps less than truthful about his age, he joined the Navy at the age of 17 in 1945. His enlistment was for the duration of World War II, which meant that in 1946 he left the Navy after about 11 months with a full GI Bill.

He put that GI Bill to good use in both undergraduate and graduate schools.

After commuting from his family's farm in Clarkston to Washington State College in Pullman for four years on an old Indian motorcycle that he restored himself, he received his B.S. in psychology and applied to graduate school at the University of Iowa. Although he remained a die-hard Cougar fan his whole life, his family is very grateful he went to Iowa because there he met Mary Ann Duros, the love of his life and mother of his three children: Scott Warfield (Marlene), Laura Lynch (Terry) and Tony Warfield (Megan). Mary preceded Bob in death in 1990.

In retirement Bob loved nothing more than creating beautiful woodwork and spending time with his three children, three children-in-law and seven grandchildren (Sarah Warfield, Samuel Warfield, Russell Warfield, Patrick Lynch, Daniel Lynch, Trevor Lynch, and Jack Warfield).

A small graveside service will be held on Monday, December 11th at 2:00 pm at Haven of Rest, Gig Harbor.

In lieu of flowers we are sure that Bob would appreciate donations to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital uncompensated care fund.
