Shannon Jane Wiggs
9/12/1956-1/4/2020
On January 4, 2020 Shannon left the bounds of earth to her eternal home with her Lord and Savior. It is well with her soul. She joined her parents Eldon M. Wiggs and JoJean Wiggs who preceded her in death. She leaves behind her sister Debra Wiggs and cousin Mark Balyeat (Lisa) and their two children along with other extended family members and an abundance of friends both in the US and around the world.
Shannon received her undergrad degree in education from EWU and MEd. from WWU. She began her education career in Shelton, WA and continued to Everett, WA before retiring as an Assistant Superintendent in the Peninsula School District, Gig Harbor, WA. in 2011. She spent her career teaching and developing student’s and educator leadership. As the assistant principal for Gig Harbor High School, she was recognized as the Washington State Assistant Principal of the Year in 1997 and was inducted into the Washington Association of Activity Coordinators Hall of Fame in 2017. Shannon remained passionate about education into retirement and taught at the Purdy Women’s Correctional Center helping parolee’s with re-entry life skills.
As an avid traveler, she was able to visit much of the world. She loved seeing new places, making new friends and understanding new cultural environments. Her other passion was the wonderful world of food preparation and sharing meals with others. Her reputation as a cook is legendary among her friends and as the consummate hostess was always able to prepare a meal or make a dish for any event. Her sister marveled at her ability to read and then “taste a recipe” before making it. In 1995, she was a Paul Newman Recipe contest finalist – winning $2,500 for a local charity.
Shannon has left a legacy through her years in education and service to the community. She supported her beloved Gig Harbor community through downtown beautification programs, and she supported local charities in actions and deeds. She was known for living life her way and to honor her she has asked that we provide for others. There will be a memorial service 1/18/2020 3pm at Goodman Middle School, Gig Harbor, WA that personifies her servant nature. Please no flowers or flower arrangements. Instead she has asked that anyone attending please bring a sweater for charity. These will be donated to several area organizations. We will celebrate a life well lived by a woman well loved.
