Shirley Rae Veblen, 96, passed away peacefully in Gig Harbor, Washington on December 24, 2018. She was born in Portland, Oregon on February 2, 1922 to Roy and Ann Casebeer. She grew up in Portland and completed her Bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Oregon.
Shirley married David Veblen in 1947 and moved to Bellevue, Washington. She worked with David in his business as a highly organized bookkeeper and office manager while raising two daughters and maintaining an impressive social schedule. She was a member of several garden clubs, many bridge clubs, a bowling league, and enjoyed aerobics class, golf, gardening, entertaining and parties. She loved receiving birthday cards (especially those with monkeys) and cookies! Shirley loved the beach house at Whidbey Island where she enjoyed weekends and holidays with family and friends.
She was known for her vibrant laugh and “not looking back, always looking forward.”
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, David H. Veblen, her daughter Nanci V. Jones, and her brother, Richard Casebeer.
She is survived by her daughter Kari Snyder (Charlie) and her grandchildren Jordan Moll (Adam), Megan Winther, Nick Jones, and Kylee Jones. Shirley has three great-grandchildren who loved visiting Grandma Shirley.
Shirley was so loved and will be missed. At her request there will be no memorial service.
