Alan W. Thompson, 70, of Gig Harbor, WA passed away suddenly on Dec. 28, 2021.
He was born June 30, 1951 in Los Angles, CA. He graduated from Palos Verdes High School in 1969. He went on to secure a biology degree from Cal Poly, SLO and then pursued his PharmD. Degree at USC. After graduation he married the love of his life, Barbara, and they decided to take an adventure and moved to Helena, MT where he worked for 10 years at the local VA. While in Montana, Alan got to follow his passion of spending time outdoors, being involved in his church, and watching the birth of his first 3 children ( Jeff, Emily, Julie). In 1986, the family moved to GIg Harbor. In addition to continuing to work as a pharmacist, and being a wonderful father and husband, the family became a foster home for 17 years and over 35 infants. Barb and Alan adopted their last child, Katie, to end that chapter of their life and begin a new one.
Alan’s greatest pride was the opening the GH Multicare Pharmacy where he worked until retiring in 2016. As a devoted father he always taught his children to work and study hard, hold true to your values, and remember to enjoy the little things in life. When Alan wasn’t working, he could be found hiking with his kids, practicing his photography, supporting all his children ‘s numerous activities, and proudly presenting his famous BBQ chicken or steaks with corn on the cob.
Alan is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barb, children Jeff, Emily, Julie, Katie and grandchildren Maja, Abby, Grant, and Mabel. Memorial services will be held at Haven of Rest in April, on Saturday the 9th at 2:00. Remembrances can be made at a charity of your choice.
