Bernadette Kalafatich

May 31, 1942 ~ June 25, 2022 (age 80)

Our beloved mother and wife, Bernadette Kalafatich, unexpectedly entered into God’s Kingdom on June 25th.

Bernadette was born to Frederick and Anne Baxendale on May 31, 1942, in Manchester, England. When Bernadette was 24 she moved to Los Angeles, CA with her sister Rita where she worked as a nanny. Soon after moving Bernadette met her love, Drago Kalafatich at German dance hall in Los Angeles. They were married on her birthday, May 31, 1969, and went on to have two children, Nicholas and Maria. In 1978, Drago and Bernadette moved to Gig Harbor, Washington where they raised their family and have lived ever since.

Bernadette was a loyal servant to God, first and foremost. She loved the church and had such passion for sharing His love and message with as many people as possible. Bernadette was an avid volunteer for most of her life giving her time to numerous organizations through the church and communities she lived in. She touched so many hearts by way of praying and helping the less fortunate and those in need. In addition to God and family, Bernadette also had a love for potting flowers and tennis.

Bernadette joins her parents and sisters Anne Cunningham and Rita Baxendale in Heaven. She is survived by her many loving family members, including husband, Drago. son, Nicholas Kalafatich and his wife Amy.  Her daughter, Maria Kalafatich. Her siblings, Sister Steven (Beryl Baxendale), Gerald Baxendale, and Ralph Baxendale. And her grandchildren, Caleb, Mila, Zoe, and Natalia Kalafatich.

We request all of Bernadette’s friends and loved ones to join us for Mass at St. Nicholas Catholic Parish at 10am Friday, July 8th 2022 and a Celebration of Life gathering at the Gig Harbor Yacht Club around 12 Noon.

I, John, heard a voice from heaven say,

“Write this: Blessed are the dead

who die in the Lord from now on.”

“Yes,” said the Spirit,

“let them find rest from their labors,

     for their works accompany them.”
