Charlotte Hahn Obituary

CHARLOTTE ELLEN HAHN  3/4/1929 – 8/1/2022

Charlotte Ellen Hahn passed away peacefully on August 1st, 2022 in Port Orchard WA at the age of 93.

Charlotte was born March 4, 1929 in Seattle WA to Pearl and Barney Johnson.  She was the youngest of two girls and her sister Betty Gallegos Widman preceded her in death in 2017 at the age of 92.  The family moved to Port Orchard and homesteaded 10 acres when Charlotte was 2.

At the age of 21 Charlotte enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. She received her training in Paris Island, South Carolina and after a brief time she returned to Port Orchard and went to work in the Bremerton Naval Shipyards as a clerk.

Charlotte was the single parent of two boys, Lou and Robert when she met the love of her life and married Lester Hahn. They were married in 1966 and moved into the home Lester built on 5 acres on Pine Road. They enjoyed a full life together traveling to New York, Texas, California and Mexico and many other road trips.  Lester, a pilot, taught Charlotte to fly and they spent many hours together among the clouds.

Charlotte entered her caregiving years in 1989 when Lester suffered a debilitating stroke.  She faithfully cared for him at home for 9 years. He then entered a nursing facility where Charlotte visited him twice a day, every day, until his death in 2007.  They were married for 41 years.

She stayed in their home for the next 14 years filling her time by feeding the birds, racoons and stray cats that found their way to her home.  Several of the cats found their way into her heart and then her home.  She daily picked up her sister Betty and took her shopping, on drives, ending with an everyday trip to a Port Orchard pier to feed the seagulls.  A huge part of her life was the Port Orchard Church of Christ where she was a long-time member.

When visiting her she always had your favorite cookies freshly baked and her cookie jar was never empty.  In May of 2021 she moved to Liberty Place assisted Living in Port Orchard where she enjoyed bingo and watching the birds out her window and her visits from family and friends.

Some souls are too beautiful to be forgotten, we will miss her.

The family wishes to thank Bill’s Cousins Bob and Don Cable for their weekly visits to Charlotte and niece Pat Wearn who faithfully and lovingly helped care for Charlotte.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lester in 2007, her son Robert Harrison in 2010 and her son Lou Harrison in 2020.

She is survived by her stepson Lester (Bill) Hahn (Janet), Daughter in law Jan Harrison (Robert) Ex Daughter in law Nancy Harrison (Lou) Niece Pat Wearn, Nephew John Gallegos, Grandsons Jeffery Harrison,  Nathan Hahn (Lorna) Ryan Hahn (Lori), Garren Hahn (Emma) Troy Hayman (Jeni), Granddaughter Archelle Hayman and numerous Great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
