Charlotte Marjorie Jackson passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on October 30, 2022, in Port Orchard, Washington. She was born on March 23, 1927, in Batavia, New York to Louis and Mabel Richenberg.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband Duane Jackson, her parents, daughter (Linda Mader) and half-brother (Gorden Peters). She is survived by her daughters Penny Starkey (husband Curt), and Louise Houston, grandsons Jason Mader and Byron Starkey (wife Annalee). She was loved and will be dearly missed.
While growing up in New York Charlotte’s family owned a five-acre farm with one cow and raised a variety of crops. Her father built their house and Charlotte was her Dad’s helper.
About 1949 her family moved to Tucson, Arizona due to the health of her stepmom. Charlotte got a job working at the Woolworth’s lunch counter in downtown Tucson. This is where she met Duane Jackson. They started dating in 1951 and six weeks later they got married. They were married for 69 years until his death in 2020. They had three daughters who they raised together in Tucson.
While living in Tucson, Charlotte enjoyed taking care of her grandson, Jason, while her daughter and son-in-law were working. Her and Duane were very active in Sahuaro Christian Church. While her daughters were growing up, the Jackson house was known for yummy baked goods especially cookies and was “hang out” for the neighborhood kids.
In 1988 Charlotte and Duane moved to Port Orchard, Washington to be near their eldest daughter. Charlotte enjoyed taking care of her grandson, Byron, while his parents were working. Both Charlotte and Duane enjoyed attending their grandson’s soccer and baseball games. Charlotte taught Sunday school and helped out with Vacation Bible School and potlucks at their church.
Charlotte and Duane were very proud of their daughters and grandsons.
A Graveside Service will be held at Haven of Rest Memorial Park on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 1:00 p.m.
