Cynthia Joyce Pohlmann

Cynthia Joyce (Jo) Pohlmann, a Gig Harbor, WA resident since 2019 (formerly of Altus, OK 1972-2019), died at her home on May 25, 2021.  Cynthia was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and real estate partner. 

Jo was originally a British citizen born to Margerie and Alfred Peasey in Martlesham, England in 1932.  Her formative years were lived during World War II.  The “Battle of Britain” air war was literally fought overhead while she was still in primary school.   She left school one year after WWII and was lucky enough to find a job in a local canning factory during the challenging “rebuilding years” in Europe just after WWII.  Though a very tough and very labor-intensive job, she always recounted the joy and camaraderie she felt working with the “girls” at the factory. 

In the early 50s, she met a young American airman.   She was married to Arthur D Pohlmann shortly thereafter and they made their way to the US in the mid-50’s.  During their first assignment in the United States, Jo became a US citizen.

During the subsequent years, she and her family would move to Shreveport, LA; Kempsford, England; Altus, OK; Woodbridge, England; London, England; Knob Noster, MO; Altus, OK; San Antonio, TX: and finally, back to Altus, OK.  After 3 children and 22 years with the US Air Force, Jo and Art retired from the military and made a lasting home in Altus, OK in 1972. 

Over the next 35 years Jo and Art (working side by side) built a very successful real estate business.  They finally retired in 2012.  In 2019 they moved to Gig Harbor, WA – to be near their daughter.

Remaining family members include her husband of 68 years, Arthur D Pohlmann; son Anthony Brand of Fort Lauderdale, FL, son and daughter-in-law Rod and Jennifer Pohlmann of Colorado Springs, CO; and daughter and son-in-law Sal’An and Mike Weyer of Gig Harbor, WA.  In addition, there are four grandchildren (John Pohlmann (Allison) of Denver, CO, Sarah Silberberg of Ladera Ranch, CA, Jamie Anthony of Tacoma, WA and Joey Hixson of Altus, OK); and eight great grandchildren (Mark and Ja’lyn of Tacoma WA, Presley and Emmett of Denver, CO, Tate and Tenley of Ladera Ranch, CA, and Josiah and Kaleb of Altus, OK).   Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Margerie Peasey, her older brother Geoffrey Peasey and her younger brother Tony Peasey.

Memorial Services will be 11:00am, Wednesday, Jun 2, 2021, at Haven of Rest Cemetery, Gig Harbor, WA  98332.  Arrangements by Haven of Rest, Gig Harbor, WA 98332.
