David Coleman Cobb, 75 passed away peacefully from cancer in Gig Harbor, WA on February 24, 2020 surrounded by family. David was born in Tacoma, Washington on May 29, 1944 to William and Frances Cobb. He grew up on the Kitsap Peninsula, graduating from North Kitsap High School in 1962.
David proudly served in Vietnam as a United States Marine from 1966-1970. Upon returning from Vietnam he met his wife of 52 years, Jean Perkins in Kansas City, MO and they were married on June 24, 1967.
He received his B.S. in Fish and Wildlife Biology from Montana State University, Great Falls. He worked in Great Falls, Montana before embarking on a long career with Valdez Fisheries Development Association in Valdez, Alaska.
David lived in Alaska for 30 years. He enjoyed spending time on the “SeaBee” fishing in Prince William Sound, moose hunting with friends and rooting for his beloved Seattle Seahawks. David was very involved in the community of Valdez serving as mayor, city council member and on many other boards and projects.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin sister Diane Olsen, sister Susan deGraffenried and brother Stephen “Mickey” Cobb (Rose).
David is survived by his wife Jean, daughters Jennifer Roetman (Paul) and Shannon Grabos (Joe), grandchildren Noah, Joshua, Seth, Ethan and Zachary Roetman, Sofia and Max Grabos and his brother Brian Cobb (Kimberly), as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church at 3510 Rosedale St NW, Gig Harbor, WA on March 2, 2020 at 11:00am. David will be laid to rest at Tahoma National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, information below.
