Garrett Williams Dimmitt, 67, passed away in his home on February 16, 2020. Gary was born in Los Angeles, California on December 6, 1952 to Joan and Herbert Dimmitt. He was raised in Southern California with his beloved sister, Joni. He is deeply loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
Gary graduated from Sonora High School in 1971. After High School, he received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Northern Arizona University. At NAU, he met his wife, Susan Dimmitt, to whom he was married for 37 years. Gary and Sue were blessed to raise three daughters together.
Gary loved boating and waterskiing with his girls on Lake Coeur d’Alene and Lake Washington. He loved riding the backcountry roads on his motorcycle and once rode his Harley from Seattle to Tucson. Gary was a skilled woodworker and spent many hours in his garage working on various projects. His favorite pastime was sitting in the driveway with a glass of wine, chatting with his neighbors. He adored his grandchildren, who he endearingly called “Grandpa’s Punks.”
Gary is preceded in death by his mother, Joan, and father, Herb. Gary leaves behind three daughters and their families: Briana & Josh Waggoner and their children, Grant (7) & Kara (5); Mariette & Barron Miller and their daughter, Vail (1); Annie & Chad Christensen. The night before he died, Gary was delighted to hear that both Annie & Mariette are expecting baby boys in August. We take solace in the fact that our Dad died with the knowledge that his daughters were happily married and their families were growing. His last communications were celebrating the happy news with Sue and his daughters.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. -Revelation 21:4
