After a 9 month long battle with Covid, Gary R. Wurts, dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Gary’s loving and grieving family includes his wife, Virginia L. Wurts of 53 years, their three children, Jeff R. Wurts, Brian D. Wurts, and Amanda J. Wurts; His  three grandsons, Ryan, Connor and Sean Wurts, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Wurts.

Gary comes from a large family of 7 brothers and 1 sister, Billy, Tommy, Danny, Gary, Linda, Teddy, Bobby, & David Wurts.  His parents, now deceased, were Thomas and Lois Wurts, of Romulus, Michigan.

 Gary was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 8, 1948. After marrying his wife Virginia in 1968, they moved to Washington State to begin their life together, where Gary served in the USAF at McChord AFB. Following his active-duty service, Gary served as an Airforce Reservist. After retiring as a M.Sgt, he worked for Boeing International. Gary loved his country and was proud to serve it well.

Gary and Virginia met as teenagers and have been in love ever since. Gary has been blessed to be able to work with his lifelong passion- airplanes. His love for aviation has provided him with an extensive background in avionics. Gary’s work experience includes working on the C-141’s and C-17’s. Gary was also a private pilot, flying Cennesa’s 172’s and 150’s.

Most importantly, Gary is a Christian and knows his Savior, Jesus Christ and that God is in control of all things. He also knows that His God will never leave him. His family loves him dearly and will miss him more than words can say. We all look forward to the day when we can all be together again.

• Haven of Rest funeral home, In Gig Harbor Washington, will host Gary’s services at 2 pm this Tuesday, May 17^th.
