George Korakis Obituary

George T. Korakis, 83, a resident of Gig Harbor passed away peacefully at Orchard Park Nursing Home on Sunday, April 7, 2019. George was battling various long term illnesses.

George was born in Seattle; he grew up on the family farm in Foster. At a young age, George joined the Navy. George saw active duty in the Korean War. He piloted an LCM boat in troop patrol missions. After serving his military time, he married Annette Kinney who was born in North Dakota and later had moved to the Pacific Northwest. George worked as an abled body seaman on the Washington State Ferries. His family grew with daughter Margo and son Mike. Later he worked for Water Districts 61 and 75. George with some of his good friends started a construction business for a short while. Later George became the manager of Normandy Park Water District. He enjoyed family gatherings and boating at their Lake Cushman cabin. George and Annette traveled to Mexico with family, and he even had a go at hang gliding. They moved to Gig Harbor in 1994. He spent vacation time cruising the Puget Sound, San Juan Islands, and the Gulf Islands. George was proud of his Greek heritage enjoyed the Greek church bazaars and family lamb bar-b-ques. When his grandson John was born he really embraced being his grandfather. During retirement, George continued to enjoy boating and looked forward to the many meets of the Puget Sounders antique outboard club with grandson John, family, and club members.

George is survived by his wife Annette Korakis of over 60 years in Gig Harbor, his brothers Tyke and Harold; sisters Christine, Mary, and Harriet; son Mike in Port Orchard, daughter Margo and son-in-law Wayne in Gig Harbor and grandson John in Anacortes. He was preceded by sister Tess. George is also survived by the many members of the extended family.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the Haven of Rest Funeral Cemetery, Gig Harbor.
