Gladys Willis, 92, passed into Jesus’ loving arms, October 26, 2021. She was born on December 21, 1928, the 9th child born to William James and Nellie May Conklin in Lilliwaup, Washington. Her younger sister Wilma, born 5 years later, made their family complete.
Gladys lost her mother right before she turned 14 and the family, still living at home, soon moved to Tracyton. She graduated in 1947 from Central Kitsap High School. She met Robert L. Willis at Perl Maurer’s Dance Pavilion. They were married in June of 1948 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bremerton and were married for 56 years until Robert’s death in November of 2004. She was also preceded in death by her father, step mother Margaret (Dawkins) Conklin and all of her siblings except Wilma (Conklin) Gurley.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Judy (Steve) Armstrong, son Robb, granddaughters Stephanie (Jay) Johnson, Jenny (Chris) Telfer, grandson Joshua (Rosie) Armstrong and Michael Armstrong, sister Wilma, as well as 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Gladys lived the majority of her life in various homes in the Seattle area, where she and the family attended Glendale Lutheran Church. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse in the 60’s and worked many years in the nursing field. She was a natural born care giver.
Gladys loved the Lord, was faithful in her worship and desired for all people to know the Lord. She had a humble, servant quality about her. Heaven has gained a blessed soul.
