INGRID VERA HINES
1937 – 2022
Miss Ingrid entered this world in 1937, born to Irma and Knute Carlson. Ingrid, along with her older sister Joan, grew up on the Moxahela estate in Gates Mills, Ohio, where her father was the head caretaker. Ingrid’s life took her to Augustana College where she met Ralph Hines. Together they had three children, Dan, Barb, and Bob and settled in South Holland, Illinois. After moving on her own, Ingrid went on to have a very successful career with IBM earning many awards and recognition for her command of mainframe operating systems and problem solving of computer code. Following in her father’s green thumb legacy, Ingrid’s greatest love besides her family and friends was her garden, and specifically her dahlias. Ingrid eventually moved to Gig Harbor, Washington after her retirement where she found herself every year creating more gardening areas to support her dahlia passion. As we enter spring we can only be inspired by her excitement for the approaching colorful season and think of the beauty that awaits in the coming year. Ingrid is survived by her children, Bob (Patti) and Barb (Matt Minarck), her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, many adored relatives, and wonderful friends. Ingrid was passionate about nature and her adopted city of Gig Harbor. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the newly created Gig Harbor Land Conservation Fund (www.gigharborlandconservation.com) would honor her memory.
