James (Jim) Frederick Rouse of Port Orchard, WA passed away peacefully at home on January 12, 2022 at the age of 93. James was born to Earnest W. and Clara Rouse on September 26, 1928 in Tacoma WA. He spent the majority of his early years in the Tacoma and Gig Harbor area before entering the Air Force in 1948. He served as a Medic and played baseball in Japan during the Korean War. He loved sports and was an avid Seattle Mariners Baseball and UW Huskies Football fan. After being discharged in 1952, James met the love of his life, Hattie, in Cottage Grove, OR and they were married for nearly 65 years.
James worked as a machinist in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1966 to 1977, when he felt the call of God and surrendered to the Ministry. He pastored Baptist churches in Gig Harbor, WA, and Crosbyton, Texas before returning to Civil Service at Trident Refit Facility Bangor in 1983. He retired from Bangor in 1990 with a total of 21 years of Civil service. James would then go on to be the founding Pastor at Key Peninsula Baptist Fellowship from 1994 to 2008.
James was proceeded in death by his wife, Hattie (Hutton) Rouse and Daughter Sheryl Ann Pease. He is survived by daughters, Carol Jarrett (Port Orchard, WA), Linda Kimball (Jal, NM) and Patty Shaw (Port Orchard, WA); 16 Grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 22nd, at Christ The Rock Community Church, Port Orchard. Interment will be at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Gig Harbor WA.
