Joan Margaret McCoy Larsen, 93, born in Elizabeth, NJ, most
recently residing in Gig Harbor, WA died peacefully in her sleep on
April 12, 2023. She was the feisty red-headed daughter of John and
Margaret McCoy. She attended Saint Mary of the Woods College in
Terre Haute, Indiana and graduated with a degree in Economics.
Joan went on to work at a brokerage firm at the New York Stock
Exchange for several years before beginning her family with her
first husband Robert Martin, a Marine aviator who died on July 8,
1960, in a plane crash. She married Howland A. Larsen on May 12,
1962. She was an active member of the Roman Catholic Church and
served the Lord faithfully throughout her lifetime. She remembered
her Irish heritage by zealously celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day and
requiring the entire family to eat corned beef and cabbage, and wear
green. She was noted for her sense of humor, bright blue eyes, and
winning smile.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Howie Larsen, her
children John (wife Sudie), Lisa Roraback, Ted (wife Patricia), Paul,
and Ann (husband John Cirillo), 12 grandchildren, 7 great
grandchildren, and her two sisters Sally Harrington and Beth Friel.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Martin, her
oldest son Bryce, and her grandson Jedidiah.
Visitation will be held from 8:30-9:45 am April 19, 2023, at Haven of
Rest, 8503 State Route 16 NW, Gig Harbor, WA 98332 followed by a
funeral Mass at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 3510 Rosedale St.
NW, Gig Harbor, WA, at 11 am. A brief graveside service will be held
at Haven of Rest immediately after Mass. After the ceremonies a
small reception will be held at Heron’s Key, 4340 Borgen Blvd.,
Building H., Gig Harbor, WA. 98332.
