Jonathan Stubbs Obituary

Our dearest Jon was tragically taken from us on March 30, 2022, due to unexpected complications after open heart surgery. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Growing up in Lakewood, Washington, Jon graduated from Lakes High School. He then went on to graduate from the University of Washington Seattle in 1983, followed by Seattle University School of Law (formerly U.P.S) where he earned his Juris Doctorate in 1986. He excelled both academically as a student, and socially, making lifelong friends along the way.

Following in the footsteps of his father H. Frank Stubbs, Jonathan devoted his legal practice to representing injured people of all walks of life for 35 years. As a solo practitioner he was a dedicated, passionate advocate for justice. His title was Attorney at Law, but as he often said best himself, his job was “to help people!”

Jon was highly respected in the legal community not only for his decades of impactful work, but also for his unwavering integrity and genuine kindness.

Unable to pursue athletic endeavors due to his heart condition, Jonathan nevertheless maintained a positive and ebullient spirit and found his passions elsewhere. He loved music. He was the singer in bands with his best friends throughout Junior High and High School. He played an array of different musical instruments including flute, saxophone, and drums. He loved nature and enjoyed being outdoors whether he was skiing, hunting, boating, or fishing. But above all else, Jon loved and adored his family.

In 1991 Jonathan married his precious wife, Marycatherine. She was the love of his life. The love they shared was an example to everyone who knew them. Shortly after their nuptials they welcomed two children, Neil and Claire, who were his pride and joy. Jon was an exemplary husband and a devoted father. He was a loving son, and the youngest of six siblings. Nothing in the world meant more to him than his family.

Jon was an exceptional friend. He loved everyone he met, and was truly a friend to all. He had an unmatched positive spirit and zest for life that was felt by everyone privileged enough to know him. He was effortlessly kind, selfless, honest, and compassionate. He had a brilliant mind, an excellent sense of humor, and a smile so infectious it lit up every room he entered. Simply put, to know Jonathan Stubbs was to love him, and to be loved by him was in itself, a gift.

Our beloved Jon was taken from us far too soon. We will hold him in our hearts forever and go forward with the goal to live life as Jon did; spreading happiness, kindness, and love to all. Fly high, Jon.
