Kim Kawada-Schauer Obituary

Kim Kawada-Schauer, 9/28/65 - 04/02/2022

Kim passed from this life on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 2:10 pm PST. She was at home on hospice care, surrounded by family.

Kim was born on September 28th, 1965 in Sacramento, CA.  She graduated from George Dewey High School in the Philippines, and earned her Business Degree from Central Washington University.  She retired from the Port of Olympia in 2020.  She loved to read, travel, run, and make people happy.  She had a true gift, and never missed acknowledging someone's birthday or anniversary.

Kim was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, on October 20, 2019. Kim rose to meet this challenge with the same grace, style and determination that exemplified her life, and beat the life-expectancy by nearly a full year!

Kim’s treatments had her traveling from coast to coast, sometimes for extended stays with lengthy recovery times. Her light and love for life kept her moving. She visited wineries, baked with passion, and planned family celebrations. When travel wasn’t an option due to treatments or covid restrictions, she ran the Honolulu Merrie Mile and the Edinburgh Marathon from a treadmill at home. Kim also always made time to chat with family and friends, to support their new business ventures, to fellowship with her community, and to nurture her family.

Kim is survived by her sister Kathy Kawada, niece Kate Buccarelli, her loving husband Eric Schauer, Six Step-Children whom she loved as her own, Twelve Grandchildren, a Buddhist community, and many friends scattered around the globe.

Kim’s wish is that in lieu of the Japanese tradition of koden (condolence money for the family), donations be made in her name to:

Tacoma Buddhist Temple
1717 S. Fawcett Avenue
Tacoma, WA 98402

Rest easy, Dollface
