Lindsay Cowley (Miles) Obituary

Lindsay Lauren (Miles) Cowley, age 42, passed away at St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington on 21 May 2023 from a lengthy illness. Family was at her side.

Lindsay was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was raised in Poulsbo, Washington, and graduated from North Kitsap High School and Olympic College in 1998. She served her local community as Miss Poulsbo from 1997 to 1998. At the age of 20, she graduated from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah with a degree in Anthropology. While attending school in Provo, she met her future husband, Jon Cowley, of Brigham City, Utah.

She and Jon were married in Salt Lake City in 2001, and they made their first home in Columbus, Ohio, where Jon was attending law school. Following Jon’s graduation, they moved to Chicago where Lindsay was an event coordinator for the Executives Club of Chicago, and where Jon started his career. While there, they adopted a little girl, Naomi Lynn, in 2006.

Four years later, when they were living in California, they adopted their second child, Ginger ReNae. They also lived in Portland, Oregon and Hong Kong before they returned to Washington in 2020 to be closer to Lindsay’s family.

Lindsay had abundant interests and talents. She loved exploring the world, and visited over 45 states and nearly as many countries. She loved to connect with and learn from different cultures. She found beauty in everything. She had a knack for decorating, photography, poetry, and was fascinated with learning how the world works. She cherished memories, and was an avid collector of personal items that reminded her of special moments.

Lindsay was an extraordinary mother and wife, and she loved her family more than anything. She made every place she lived a home filled with love, joy, and special traditions. She was well-organized and kept everything afloat. She was an outstanding listener, and her husband, children, extended family, and friends would go to her for perspective, strength, and encouragement, even to the end. She loved her family, and was a fiercely loyal friend. She radiated love, light, and goodness, and made those around her better people.

She was a lifelong, active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She battled illness from the age of 15, but demonstrated amazing faith, courage, and endurance, especially as her health dramatically declined during the last four years. Her illness magnified her compassion, and also taught her the importance of making the most out of the good times. She will remain an inspiration of strength and optimism. She moved gracefully across all circles, even in the toughest of times, and was loved, and will be missed, by so many.

She is survived by her husband, Jon, and her two daughters, Naomi (16) and Ginger (13); by her parents, Steven and Debra (Exton) Miles of Poulsbo, Washington; and by her siblings, Tyler Miles (Nicole) of San Diego, California, Riann Koldewyn (Layne) of South Jordan, Utah, and Lesley Sadler (Parker) of Gig Harbor, Washington.

A memorial service will be held for Lindsay at the the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel on 2138 NE Mesford Street, Poulsbo, Washington on Saturday, 3 June 2023 at 10:00 am PDT. We welcome all family and friends to attend.
