LuVerne was born May 17, 1925 in Fergus Falls, MN and died May 29, 2022. She moved to Tacoma, Washington with her parents at the age of 17. After graduating from Stadium High School she went to Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing graduating as Registered Nurse in 1946. LuVerne married John Richard Petersen in the fall of ’46. She was affectionately known by her close friends as “Lovey”. LuVerne and Richard raised their three daughters Jeanette, Karen and Lisa in Tacoma, and spent their summers at Sunrise Beach. LuVerne and Richard moved to Longbranch, WA in 1975 where they lived a wonderful and active life for over 40 years.
LuVerne was not one to sit idle. She was an independent thinker and a life-long leaner. She pursued her dreams and interests with a strong sensible approach. During her life she was involved with many organizations Mason Methodist church, orthopedic guild, glass club, antique club, PTA, the Campfire Girl organization, and the Longbranch Community Church.
Her nursing career took her from hospital work, to a doctor’s office to the student health center at PLU. She worked to put her girls through college and when the last check went to WSU in 1978 she retired the very next day!!
She was a talented and beautiful seamstress and an avid bird watcher, her binoculars never far away, She had a passion for genealogy and spent years researching the family trees, leaving her family a precious gift of our history.
LuVerne knew the secret of balance – she pursued her dreams but always had time for her family. It was a life well lived. We will miss her always.
LuVerne is preceded in death by her loving husband John Richard Petersen. She is survived by her daughters Jeanette L. Petersen, Karen M. Prim, Lisa A. Parker (Dave), 7 grandchildren Jenae, Lisa, Tara, Brady, Brett, Matt, Scott, and 3 great grandchildren Corbin, Sloane and Logan.
