Margaret “Margi” Ann (Scott) List, 74, of Gig Harbor, Wash., went home to be with Jesus on September 3, 2020 at her home in Gig Harbor with her family by her side.
Margi was born in San Diego, CA on September 25, 1945 to Shirley Wilson and was adopted by her daddy, Robert Scott. She graduated from Upland College Academy on May 31, 1963. She was a cheerleader, choir member and secretary of her senior class. Margi graduated with honors from Azusa Pacific College on June 2, 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts. She went on to receive advanced certificates in several music teaching methodologies.
Margi first met her husband, Michael List, in the fall of 1970 at a singles retreat at Arrowhead Springs Conference Center. They were married August 7, 1971 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Upland, California. Mike and Margi went on to have three children: Stephen, David and Katie. Together they built their home in Rancho Cucamonga, California before moving to Gig Harbor, Washington in 1989. She considered her seven grandchildren—Natalie, Jacob, Zachariah, Samantha, Naomi, Abigail, and Isaiah—to be a gift from God.
After college, Margi was a Kindergarten teacher for seven years in the Azusa School District. After raising her children, Margi returned to the classroom, teaching Elementary Music for the Clover Park, Federal Way and South Kitsap School Districts. She continued to teach even after retirement, traveling throughout Asia for 10 summers with the English Language Institute of China (ELIC).
Margi loved music: playing piano, guitar and singing, along with many other instruments. She sang in church, school and community choirs; recording albums with Azusa Pacific College and Breath of Aire Choir. Music took Margi all over the United States and even traveled to sing in England. Margi took her guitar with her to China. For many years, Margi played piano and helped lead singing for the Gig Harbor Church of the Nazarene and Peninsula Retirement Center.
Margi was an accomplished cook and baker. Her pies, jams, breads and cakes won many awards at the Los Angeles County Fair and other baking competitions. She enjoyed hosting people in her home for a family meal and always contributed to church potlucks. Feeding and caring for her family, friends and church was one of Margi’s many gifts.
Margi loved Jesus! As a small child, she believed in Jesus for her salvation. She took her love of God all over the world and would share her testimony with anyone who would listen. More than a church attender, Margi loved the church and gave much of her free time to the Church. She and Mike were founding members of both the Highland Avenue Church of the Nazarene in California and the Gig Harbor Church of the Nazarene in Washington. Even when her memory was failing, if she knew it was Sunday, then she was asking to go to Church.
In the fall of 2018, Margi was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia—a disease with no cure. Her loving husband, Mike, took this diagnosis and made sure Margi wanted for nothing. Becoming her full time caregiver and nurse, he cared tirelessly for her day in and day out for 2 years. From medications, to meals, to driving Margi to appointments, this loyal husband has honored her every step of the way. During her final days on this earth, she expressed her love for Mike by kissing him or telling him she loved him.
Margi lives on in the many lives she touched. She was tenacious, adventurous, loving, hospitable, and yes, even a bit stubborn. Margi will be deeply missed by her family, friends and former students.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 1 PM, at the Gig Harbor Church of the Nazarene. The service will be live streamed with limited seating due to Covid Restrictions. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to one of the charities listed below.
