On the 12th of April, 2023, Marilyn Bielstein of Gig Harbor, WA died at the age of 85.
Marilyn was born to Helen and Wayne Mansfield in 1938. She earned her nursing degree in 1958 at St. Mary’s College of Nursing at the University of San Francisco, CA.
In September of 1958, she married Air Force Lieutenant Lawrence E. Bielstein at St. Francis Catholic Church in Bakersfield, CA, and together they raised five children, Matthew, James, Elizabeth, Jennifer, and Laura.
Marilyn loved reading, writing, gardening, quilting, and art. She advanced from oil painting to acrylic, then Japanese Sumie ink and watercolor painting. She was a member of the Puget Sound Sumi Artists Association for several years.
Those interests would make way for an impactful career as a nurse when she returned to work in 1982. Her favorite job was as a Registered Nurse Counselor at the Juvenile Probation Dept. in Santa Clara, CA, where she helped abused and abandoned children ages newborn to 18 years of age. She later changed careers to work as a Neonatal Intensive Care Specialist in Tacoma, WA. After 14 years, she was forced to leave due to needing back surgery, which she successfully recovered from, and an increasing number of autoimmune diseases.
Marilyn is survived by Larry, her husband of 64 years, all her children, her brother Steve, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11AM on April 27, 2023, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Gig Harbor, WA, followed by interment at Haven of Rest in Gig Harbor.
