Michael Wescott Obituary

Michael James Wescott (Mike) was born on February 15, 1954 to Retha (“Bunnie”) and Robert Wescott in Tacoma, Washington.  He passed on into the arms of His Lord & Savior December 26, 2020.  A lifelong resident of the Gig Harbor/Tacoma area, Mike is survived by wife Thea, his daughters, Julie Wescott, Genevieve Amsden, his sons Rick Wescott and wife Samantha, Luke Amsden, Vincent Amsden and wife, Anna, his brother, Rick Wescott and Rick’s wife Linda, grandsons, nephews and niece.

Mike grew up in Tacoma and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1973.  He later attended and graduated from Tacoma Vocational School as a Certified Diesel Mechanic, worked in the concrete business for 20 years at Kitsap Ready Mix, Miles Sand & Gravel and Shope Concrete in Puyallup.  He joined the family business, Wescraft RV & Truck, in the year 2000 and was a leader throughout the company. He worked at Wescraft until his passing and is greatly missed by all the staff there.

Mike loved spending time with his family and enjoyed many activities including spending time at the beach, boating, playing his guitar, listening to his wife sing and play, attending and camping at bluegrass festivals around Washington State, and listening to classic country music.  He also loved working on car engines, restoring classic cars and enjoyed attending car shows and hanging with his mechanic pals.  He was an excellent boat Captain, owned several boats and enjoyed restoring boats with his brother.  He also spent several years surveying commercial tugboats in Puget Sound and on the Columbia River with his good friend, Stan.  Mike was also a great lover of dogs and always had several sharing his life and home.

Mike was known for his kindness, sensitivity, sense of humor, and his love of people.  A friend recently described him as the most honest and true person she had ever met. Another friend said that Mike always would meet people where they were and loved them for who they are.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Mike’s friend & caregiver, Gwen Johnston, his oncologist, Dr. Frank Senecal and staff at NW Medical Specialties, and to all the doctors and nurses at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and St. Anthony’s Hospital.

Mike’s family requests that donations in his memory be offered to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance in lieu of flowers.  Services will be held at a later date to be determined at Haven of Rest in Gig Harbor, Washington.
