Nancy Lou (Grimes) Shelton was born July 5th, 1927 to Russell and Ruth Grimes in Georgetown. She graduated from Franklin High school and studied at the University of Washington. She dated her husband Frederic James Shelton in college and they were married in 1949. In 1952 their first son Mark was born followed by daughter Gayle in 1954 and youngest son James (Jim) in 1958. Nancy was active in their church, First Presbyterian in Tacoma.
In 1973 they purchased their home of 33 years on North Lenore in Tacoma and began attending Neighborhood Church.
Nancy began selling real-estate and used the earnings to purchase rental homes to house Ukrainian refugee families through the World Relief Church.
In 2008 Fred and Nancy moved to their waterfront home in Gig Harbor and attended Chapel Hill Church. Nancy joined the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Mary Ball Chapter in Tacoma. She especially enjoyed dressing in her period correct costumes and attending colonial festivals.
Fred passed in 2015 after 66 years of marriage. Nancy continued to enjoy the YMCA, DAR, traveling, community service, hosting friends and family, and enjoying the sunset in front of her fireplace overlooking Henderson Bay.
Nancy passed peacefully at home January 28th 2020 but her memory and legacy will continue for years to come.
