Legacy of Deacon Oliver Parish, Jr.

Deacon Oliver Parish Jr. was born November27, 1935 from the union of Mother Everlena Parish and Deacon Oliver Parish, Sr. I Foots, Mississippi. He had five siblings, three girls and two boys.

Deacon Parish started his Christian journey at an early age attending Kingdom Hill Baptist Church with his parents where Reverend Powell was the pastor. It was instilled in him the value of knowing and serving our Lord and Savior.

Mother Parish’s brother, Lewis Sacks, brought Deacon Parish Jr. home with him one day. He introduced Deacon Parish to his sister and it was love at first sight! Once he got in, he never looked back. Deacon Parish never stopped coming back to see Molsia and forgot all about Lewis. They were soon engaged and on June 24th, 1955 they were united in Holy Matrimony. Through their union they were blessed with eight wonderful children, four boys and four girls. They had a lifelong marriage of sixty-eight years. Deacon Parish, Jr. provided great care and love for his family. He retired from Atlas Foundry after working there thirty-five years.

The family relocated to Tacoma, WA in 1967. After relocating the family united with the St. John’s Baptist Church under the Pastorialship of Dr. Andrew Boles, Sr. Deacon Parish was a dedicated member of the church’s male chorus and senior choir.

Deacon Parish’s hobbies were hunting, riding motorcycles and fishing. He enjoyed fishing with Mother Parish’s twin brother, Elijah. But he didn’t like it when Elijah would say, “Oliver I caught a big fish!” Deacon Parish would say, “I guess you did, because you put your pole right beside mine!”

Deacon Parish was preceded in death by Mother Everlena Parish, Father Oliver Parish, Sr. and daughter Sandra Parish.

To cherish his memories, Deacon Parish, Jr. leaves his wife Mother Molsia Parish, Daughters; Mary Lee Brown, Deborah Mussie (John), Gill Ashlock (Dan). Sons; Oliver Parish, III (Anita), Doug Parish, Donald Parish (Valda), Lee Parish and host of grand, great-grandchildren, and a great great grandchild.
