Peter Rodgers Obituary

Few have lived as large, told more colorful (mostly true) stories, or enjoyed life with such gusto.
Those many good times came to an unexpected end on Feb. 11, 2024 when Peter Laurence Rodgers, 62, of Gig Harbor, Washington, passed away at a Tacoma hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Peter was born in Dearborn, Michigan on August 24,1961 to Jack Rodgers and Patricia Lapitz Rodgers. He was the 8th of nine children. In the early 1960s, the family of eight boys and one girl moved from Michigan to Westminster, California.
Peter attended Westminster High School, where he was a member of the surfing team. He competed in surfing tournaments while in high school and after graduation. He was accomplished enough that magazines published photos of him surfing at beaches in Orange County. Later, he enjoyed vacations surfing in Baja California, Mexico, with his brother, Terry, and nephew, Devin.
He was married in his early 20s to Teresa Rodgers, and the couple had a son and daughter before divorcing.
At the invitation of his brother, Steven, and Steven’s wife, Tami, Peter moved to Washington state in 2001 and lived briefly at their Port Orchard home with their four children.
Peter met Cindy Carlson Greene in February of 2002 while both were working in the mortgage and title/escrow industry respectively. They were married in 2017. The couple shared the love of many things, including golf, tennis, and bowling. Peter was a passionate fan of the NFL Seattle Seahawks and MLB Mariners Baseball Club. He was known to express his fierce loyalty by chiding those who were not fellow true believers.
Except for a brief period in the home mortgage industry, Peter was employed most of his working career as a salesman at auto dealerships in California and Washington State.
Peter was a lifelong lover of performance automobiles. His favorites were European sports cars. He referred to his first Porsche as his “baby.” After owning three Porsches, he found a new delight in driving a Jaguar. His next dream car was going to be a Lotus.
Peter was also a superb guitar and piano player. He relished composing and recording music in his home studio. He was also a practitioner of fine art, focusing on pencil drawings and watercolors.
Peter became a dog lover after meeting Cindy. While they had many pets over the years, he really loved his best buddy, Snoopy, and his girl, Luna. He walked them every day no matter what. He was known to give them far too many treats.
Peter’s children were the light and love of his life. He relished photos of them from their childhood into adulthood. He often expressed his unconditional love and thankfulness for them. He always wished he could live closer to provide them with support and love.
Peter Rodgers was an outgoing, fun-loving person blessed with a tremendous zest for life. Few who ever met him forgot his name, his infectious laugh, or his penchant for storytelling.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy Rodgers of Gig Harbor, his children Natalie Falt of Pasadena, California, his son, Nile Rodgers, of Long Beach, California, his stepdaughter, Rochelle (Chris) Mueller, of Centerton, Arkansas, and stepson, Jacob Greene (Jessica Hebden), of Stevensville, Montana.
Other survivors include his brothers John of Palos Verdes; Terrance of San Diego; Brian of Coto de Caza; Steven of Port Orchard; Robert of San Clemente; and Joel of Ladera Ranch.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Kevin, his sister, Rebecca Potter, and his parents.
