Phyllis Virginia Radcliffe
March 13, 1920 - December 31, 2022
On December 31, 2022, Phyllis Virginia Radcliffe passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was
102 years old. She was born on March 13, 1920, in Edmonds, Washington to Menzo and Alice
Hackett. Phyllis was a native to Washington state, particularly the Puget Sound. Growing up, she lived with her parents and two brothers in various logging towns across the region. Her family eventually settled in Tacoma, WA where she graduated from Aquinas Catholic School. While in high school, she met the love of her life Robert (Bob) Radcliffe. They married in July of 1940 and remained married for 64 years, raising 3 children, until Bob passed away in 2004.
She and Bob loved to travel the world, especially to Japan and Hawaii. Inspired by the culture and Bob’s business interactions with Japan, Phyllis lived and studied in Japan for three months, eventually becoming fluent in the Japanese language. Spending time with family and friends brought Phyllis immense joy. Phyllis and Bob especially loved to spend time with their 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren at their home in Lakebay, WA. In the summers, they could be found hosting friends and family at the pool and beach. Phyllis had immaculate style and was never underdressed to any occasion. She enjoyed going to restaurants, parties, and social events. In her later life, she loved audio books, particularly autobiographies where she could learn from the perspective of others. Phyllis’ kind heart, genuine spirit, and optimism will be greatly missed.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Radcliffe; granddaughter, Terri (Mike) Hunziker; daughter-in-law, Rose (Bill) Radcliffe; and son-in-law Tom (Linda) Cunningham.
She is survived by her children – Phil (Lynn) Radcliffe, Bill Radcliffe, and Linda Cunningham; grandchildren - Traci Tovey, Angie (Tane) Cabe, Eric (Christine) Cunningham, Billy Radcliffe, and Allison Sweem; and great-grandchildren - Brae and Bryson Hunziker; Jordan, Mackenzie, Kailyn, Connor and Chase Tovey; Morgan DiGiovanni and Lauren Cabe; Hunter and Hayden Radcliffe; Gunnar and Paige Sweem.
