Ray Whitmore passed away on Nov 26. He was born on Jan 10, 1927, and was a lifelong resident of Pierce County, growing up and residing in Puyallup and Tacoma until 1966 where he moved to Gig Harbor and lived until his death on property that has been in his family since the 1860's.
He was a true example of the Greatest Generation where he put duty and family before himself. He served in the US Navy and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He retired from Bangor Naval Submarine Base. He never uttered an unkind word about anyone and lived his life quietly and unselfishly. He was a living encyclopedia of the history of Tacoma and remembered every historical detail until his last day. He enjoyed airplanes and his wildlife.
He looked forward to being reunited with his wife Kathryn, parents Elsie and Lane, brother Charles and his cat.
He will be missed by his children Sandi and Mark (Mina), grandchildren Kai and Mila, brother Wilbur (Dee), sister Susan and sister-in-law Karen.
Please honor his memory by saying hello to your neighbor and doing a kind deed for someone.
