With great sadness, we announce the loss of Renate Ingeborg May, 92, of Gig Harbor, who died January 3, 2022. Renate passed peacefully from natural causes in the presence of her family at Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington. She touched many lives as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly and forever missed.
She was born in Bad Kissingen, Germany on March 26, 1929. Renate immigrated to the United States in 1948 and became a U.S. Citizen in 1955. Renate’s profession was a medical transcriptionist. She was director of the transcription department at the original and new Saint Joseph’s Hospital as well as typed for several doctors at home. She loved to travel and one of her favorite place to visit was Las Vegas, NV. She also loved Native American art and jewelry. She was a great seamstress and also loved to knit and crochet. She had a knack for shopping, baking, cooking and loved her dogs and watching squirrels and birds outside her kitchen window.
Family members include her husband, Don of 45 years, Gig Harbor WA; daughter Beverly and her husband Mike of Gig Harbor WA; daughter Renee and her husband Joe of Gig Harbor WA; daughter Terri of Gig Harbor WA; daughter Ingrid and her husband Russ of Tacoma WA; grandchildren Michael, Trenton, Heather, Alycia, Jacob, Mandy, Matthew and Brooke; great grandchildren Michael J, Anthony, Stella, Asher, Maiya and Charlee.
Renate is preceded in death by her parents Anton and Valentine Lieblein, her brother’s Helmut Lieblein and Carl Heinz Lieblein.
Funeral Services and internment will be held Monday, January 10th, 2022 with viewing held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tacoma Humane Society or the American Heart Association.
